About Glenn Llopis

Glenn Llopis

Glenn Llopis (pronounced 'yō-pēs) focuses on bringing the immigrant perspective to business leadership and workplace innovation. Founder of the Center for Hispanic Leadership and the Center for Innovation and Humanity, Glenn is a consultant and author of Earning Serendipity: 4 Skills for Creating and Sustaining Good Fortune in Your Work; Why Hispanic Leadership Will Save America's Corporations; and Why a Personal Employee Brand Will Save Your Career and Your Workplace. Glenn speaks frequently on issues concerning the global workplace, helping employees find new purpose, innovation, and maintaining ethical leadership.

The son of Cuban immigrants who were victims of Castro's revolution, Glenn combines an immigrant's perspective, and a UCLA education, with fast-tracked years at the Gallo Wine Company and Sunkist where he became the youngest senior manager in the company's 100-year history. Leading the successful turnaround of Sunkist's juice beverage division opened the door for his next endeavor, as the vice president of the $1 billion Norway Seafood Co. at only 30 years old. The result was a transformation of that company, as Glenn brought the voices of all its employees into the company debate about its future for the first time in its history.

In the decade since, Glenn has parlayed his executive and organizational experience into innovative ventures that have been featured in The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, Larry King Live, Good Morning America, The Financial Times, Advertising Age, Brandweek, MSNBC, and Yahoo! News. He has published more than 30 articles appearing in these and other business publications and has successfully launched several new business ventures. Glenn is the former Chairman of the Executive-2-Executive Mentoring Program Committee at the University of California at Irvine, and Faculty Lecturer at the Leatherby Center for Entrepreneurship and Business Ethics at Chapman University, and the Marshall School of Business at the University of Southern California. Glenn also serves as a mentor for Junior Achievement, and he is a regular Renaissance Weekend participant.

Glenn's Cuban Roots

In the late 50's, Glenn's father Frank Llopis left his beloved Cuba with his music and his wife Jenny and re-emerged as one of the most highly respected and admired Latin musicians of his time. Known as the first to "cross-over" American Rock-N-Roll with the rhythms and sounds of Salsa and Meringue, Frank Llopis and his quartet "Los Llopis" reached the popularity of The Beatles throughout Mexico, Central America and Spain. Frank Llopis is still regarded today as one of the original Cuban music legends with the likes of Celia Cruz and Beny More.

When Glenn asked his father how he successfully navigated his journey in the face of tremendous adversity, he shared many stories and his wisdom inspired Glenn to start researching and discovering common threads that make immigrants — in this case — Hispanics professionals — great managers and leaders (especially when corporations are in search of new types of innovation and sustainability is at a premium).

As a result of the findings, the Center for Hispanic Leadership (CHL) was founded to work with Fortune 500 companies to maximize the performance of their Hispanic professionals. CHL helps Hispanics develop their leadership capacity so they can best contribute to the reinvention, renewal and growth of their organizations.
